“Who is this arrogant man, who challenges the Lord?
A man of giant size, complete with javelin, spear and sword.
What right has he to speak in such a disrespectful way?
Claiming that he will beat us all and therefore win the day.
Let us go and face his boast our trust in God complete.
He cannot defeat Jehovah hosts, even with his great physic.”
David tried the King’s own armour, it was rich, and strong and glowing,
But as David walked about he knew his steps were slowing.
“I’ll do it now with all the skills I learnt as a small lad,
God’s helped me win each battle that I have ever had.
For me it’s just the simple things, I’ll take just five smooth stones,
Because I know that in this scrap I will not be alone.
“Ok big man, Let’s see if you or my God is the stronger
I don’t see we should wait even a moment longer.
Let’s not beat about the bush, though your banter is observant,
We’ll see how your strength fares against the Lord’s devoted servant.”
Then with one mighty swing the pebble flew well guided.
And at the top of Goliath’s head the stone and his brain collided
He dropped just like a sack of spuds, his godless life had ended,
What a way to find out you’ve lost; to the God who you offended.
What lesson does this give to those who serve the Lord today,
It’s use the skills He’s given and you developed along the way.
Don’t try to look just like a king- in royal robes not you’re not filling,
But trust that God will use your skills if only you are willing
