Harvest

September is the Harvest Month and throughout this period we will be collecting items for the Sutton Night Watch. There will be several boxes in the porch area to collect the food donations. The last Sunday to bring items is 29th September.

IF YOU PREFER TO GIVE CASH, PLEASE SEE THEIR WEBSITE.(use the link below)

Sutton Night Watch is a registered charity (1171903) which was set up to support and raise awareness for the homeless people within the London Borough of Sutton and surrounding areas.

Over the past 7 years, with the support of local business, the community and fundraising efforts, we have been able to grow and expand into our own, permanent base (35 Manor Road, Wallington) in December 2019.  From here we are able to not only provide the essentials such as food, showers and clothing supplies, but we are able to also offer our service users a range of health services, benefit advice, wellbeing and educational based courses, clothes, washing facilities and most importantly, a place where they are seen, heard and understood.

Young Disciples and SOS are back

It’s back-to-school season, Young Disciples and SOS are re-starting this September and we are looking forward to receiving all the children and young people back in the different classes.

Last school year in SOS, we finished the Sermon on the Mount and followed the same themes as the Congregation on Sundays. It was great to see the young people leading an all age service, where they took us through the story of Zacchaeus. We have been truly blessed by our children and young people throughout last year. From helping with Sunday collection to desk sound and media (slides). Our children and young people have been an example of serving the Lord with a joyful heart.

On a Sunday morning the under 11’s often look at the same Bible passage as the church. We have also looked at some bible characters.

We enjoy games to introduce the theme for the morning.
Sometimes the story is told in an interactive way with actions, props and videos, other times the older children read key verses.  The older children are encouraged to find the passage in their bibles.

We use activities and quizzes to help learn the books of the bible and remind us of all the bible passages we have learnt during the year, and include fun questions from children’s  stories, nursery rhymes and everyday life.
The children have been encouraged to pray using creative activities like finger prayers, parachute prayers, traffic lights, and acronyms “tsp.” and “ PRAY”.

During the year we have enjoyed some special activities like the family games in the church and park, for the whole church family, where Raquel has organised great activities to help us all have fun and come together as a family.

Please continue to pray for our children and young people, its teachers and helpers. Also, SOS is looking for helpers/volunteers who would like to help in this ministry. Please speak to Raquel or Jan if you are interested.

Youth and Young Adult Worship Night

At New Lodge Farm, SM5 4BY

The Fuse is an evening of praise for those aged 13-30. Hosted at New Lodge Farm, just outside of Carshalton, our hope is that youth and young adults from across South London and Surrey will join as we worship God. Our vision is for young people to be united together, celebrating the goodness of God.

If this sounds like your idea of a great evening, mark the 13th of September 2024 in your diaries. We’ll meet together from 7:30-9:30pm.

The Forge

The Forge is a men’s event, held near Carshalton in Surrey. It’s a chance for us blokes to get together, share food, fun, and even talk to one another!

TF24 will run from 1pm on Saturday 14th Sept 2024, and will end on Sunday 15th at 1pm.

You can camp overnight, or just drop in for the weekend on each day.

It’s open to anyone over the age of 13, but we do ask for there to be a responsible adult around for anyone under 18!

The team come from churches based in the area and we’re running TF24 to show that following Jesus leads to the best life possible!

World Day of Prayer

Back to School

We are in the season of transitions. As we move from summer to autumn, this is the time where children and young people move classes, school, start university or enter the world of work. You may have children and young people transitioning between your own groups and, this year especially, you might be moving from a period of limited face-to-face meetings to more ‘normal’ activities. Transitions can be hard and daunting.
Energize from Urban Saints has put together some resources to help you and your young people not just
survive but thrive in this season. Here are some of them:

Coping with change: Young Minds have produced a great guide to how parents can help children cope with change.

You can download this below:

Childline has some helpful advice for those starting a new school, including how to make new friends.

Young Minds have also provided a range of resources to support children and young people with school
transitions.

Youthemployment.org have some helpful tips for
those starting Six-form and College.

If you have young people heading off to University this autumn then Student Linkup is a brilliant way for them to find a church near their campus that can help them to grow and offer support during their time away.

Finally, the best resource we can recommend is the Bible. Remind your children and young people that, although we will go through changes in this life, our God is faithful and never changes. As Joshua 1:9 says:
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
